Whitewater Progression - Multi Day Trips

This is a typical whitewater progression for rafters and catarafters in the Pacific Northwest. The classifications are based on each of these runs being in their normal flow range. High or low water on each of these runs alter the the river difficulty.

Class II to III

  • John Day (Clarno to Cottonwood)
  • Klamath (Sluice Box to Happy Camp, "Lower")
  • Grand Ronde (Minam to Troy)
  • Salmon (Hammer Cr to Snake R)

Class III

  • Deschutes (Macks Canyon to mouth, "Lower")

Class III to IV

Class IV

Class IV+

Class IV+ to V-

Class V

Class V to V+

  • SF Merced (Wawona to Merced R)
