Whitewater Progression - Day Trips

This is a typical whitewater progression for rafters and catarafters in the Pacific Northwest. The classifications are based on each of these runs being in their normal flow range. High or low water on each of these runs alter the the river difficulty.

Class II

• Deschutes (Beavertail to Macks Canyon)
• Clackamas (Barton to Carver)
• Lower Sandy (Oxbow to Dabney)

Class II+ to III-

• Klickitat (anywhere btw Little Klickitat & RM 3)
• White Salmon (blw Husum Falls to Buck Cr)
• Deschutes (Harpham Flat to Maupin)

Class III to IV-

• Washougal ("Big Eddy” section)
• Clackamas (3 Lynx to Weigh Station)
• White Salmon (BZ to abv Husum Falls)

Class IV- to IV

• Hood (Dee to Tucker)
• NF Umpqua (Horseshoe Bend to Steamboat)
• Tilton (Bremer to Ike Kinswa S.P.)
• WF Hood (Lake Branch to above Punchbowl)
• NF Smith River
• Lochsa (Indian Grave Creek to Split Creek Pack Bridge)
• Cal Salmon (Butler)
• Lower Tuolumne (Meral's Pool to Ward's Ferry)

Class IV+

• Klamath (John Boyle to Copco)
• Crooked (Lone Pine to Lk Billy Chinook)
• Smith River (Oregon Hole Gorge)
• SF Smith River (South Fork Gorge)
• Wind (Stabler to High Bridge)

Class IV+ to V-

• Cal Salmon (Nordheimer)
• NF Payette (Lower-5)
• EFSF Salmon (below Flight Simulator)
• Trinity River (Burnt Ranch Gorge)
• Grays (SF Grays to Highway 4)
• Cascade (Marble Crek Campground to Hatchery)

Class V- to V

• Secesh (Loon Creek to Lick Creek)
• Wenatchee (Tumwater Canyon)
• NF Payette (Middle-6)

Class V to V+

• White Salmon (Green Truss)
• NF Payette (Top to Bottom)
• Upper Tuolumne (Cherry Creek)
• SF Stillaguamish (Robe Canyon)
• MF Feather (Bald Rock Canyon)
